Going, Going, Gone

One of my favorite "vintage" wedding traditions is the going away suit - such a fun and classic throwback that adds a last surprise at the end of the night. It reminds me of old movies, Grace Kelly, soft wrist-length kid gloves... and as an added bonus, it will probably make your grandmother happy!

Here's what Cotton Inc (of all places!?) had to say about this tradition:

"After the wedding, the newlyweds would disappear to change into the going-away attire. The bride then emerged, sneaking into the getaway car with her husband dressed in an appropriate style for travel on train or plane: a well-tailored skirt suit, stockings, a hat and pumps. "

Clary's outfit (from a Real Wedding on Southern Weddings) is my most recent love:

Talk about vintage charm! I love the idea that some of my photos could look like they came straight out of my parents' wedding album.

Would you consider changing into a going away outfit or would you rather wear your dress as long as possible?

Jenna Lyons House Tour

Jenna Lyons, the Creative Director at J. Crew, has a house that looks like it was lifted out of the pages of their catalog - but I guess that's no surprise!

Two views of the kitchen:

I can't get over the yellow striped ceiling and the fireplace typography in the nursery. So chic, but it looks comfy, too.

And of course, a room-sized closet:

How great is that settee? See all of the photos and some sources here. Thanks to Chelsea at {frolic} for the tip!

Inspiration Board #2: Green Apples

Green apple green adds just the right pop to an otherwise classic black and white palette. Details I'm loving in this board include the centerpieces of apple "topiaries" piled on vintage glass and milk glass cake stands and the bride's snappy heels. I could see this board translated into either a spring wedding - the green lends itself perfectly to that season, and the apples would be complemented nicely with fresh grass centerpieces - or a fall wedding, if you're looking for something different than the usual brown, red, and orange scheme.

Mood: fun, fresh, classic
Palette: green apple, black, and white

New Garland Cards in the shop!

Aqua and Green

Tangerine

Blank inside, these are just waiting for your next celebratory occasion - graduations, weddings, baby showers, or a promotion, anyone? They're each $4 and available at the Peach and Pearl Etsy shop.

Oh, My Deer!

What lovely hair accessories I spied this morning over at Snippet & Ink! The designer, Chelsea, has an Etsy shop where she sells her dreamy flower and feather fantasies. My favorite part? Each piece is christened with a name straight out of the past:

Miss Betty

Miss Doris

Miss Irene

Miss Lucille

Miss Phyllis

Best of all, Snippet & Ink is hosting a giveaway - one hairpiece to one lucky reader! Check out all the designs on Chelsea's blog, then comment with your favorite on Kathryn's post before Wednesday at midnight. The randomly selected winner will be announced on Friday!

And if you haven't yet been introduced to the glory that is Snippet & Ink, be sure to spend some time checking out the months and months of out-of-control gorgeousness that are Kathryn's inspiration boards. A warning: you just might find yourself completely rethinking your wedding color palette, or be suddenly struck by an urge to redesign your house top to bottom - her combinations are that convincing.

Just Peachy

Trusty Daily Candy alerted me to Peachypan Kanzashi hair ornaments a few weeks ago. Their punchy-elegant colors and designs immediately appealed to me, and I was even more impressed when I learned each hairpiece is made of 80 to 150 folded silk petals. They're inspired by classic geisha designs, are completely handmade, and available at the Peachypan online boutique.

I'd love to see them on a quirky bride or a girl looking to jazz up a classic white tee. What do you think?

Just married?

How cute are these "Just Married" tags by Smythson of Boston? They're a little pricey at $38 for 10, but when else will you have the option to use these - and get the perks someone who spies them might give you?

Purchase them here.

House Stalking #2

Boxy, cute, and found on City Island in New York City. Photo by me.

The Duchess = Eye Candy

Last Friday E and I saw The Duchess, Keira Knightley's new movie. It was lighthearted and tragic at the same time, but OH! The dresses, the hats, the hair, the cinematography, the witty repartee... to die for. I know dressing like this would get old pretty fast, but a girl can dream. Here are some of my favorites:

There's more information from the costume designer on the movie's website.

Fall Fashion: Current J. Crew Favorites

I know I promised this post last week, but I trust you'd rather have it late than never - excuse me while I wipe the saliva off my keyboard and get on to the photos.

I adore the detailing on the Nathalie dress - I just wish I had more party-frock-wearing opportunities to take advantage of such a lovely piece!

It reminds me of Miss (now Mrs.!) Peacock's dress on Weddingbee.

I go back and forth on gold v. silver, but I'd definitely find a place for the Jenna bracelet in my wardrobe.

I would take these heels in any color, any day... except that each pair costs $198. Boo J. Crew prices.

These ones are a little crazy, but I think they'd add a kick to a neutral outfit of classic pieces.

Loved this from the moment I saw it in the catalog... it looks so soft!

Modern day Audrey Hepburn = Audrey Tautou = this French serge coat. I think it's fascinating that they're only offering it only in "bright saffron." I find it darling, but I'm not sure how many others would agree...

Perfect to dress up or down. I love how they've paired it with beaten-up jeans and a soft tee, but I could just as easily see it with a charcoal pencil skirt.

And finally, I love the pleats on this one.

There. Maybe getting my fix this way will alleviate the pressure to indulge in real life. Here's hoping!
